Bike Skills

Bike Skills BFCS_Te_Rapa

Our Bike Skills programme within schools follows national Bike Skills Guidelines covering bike safety checks, legal requirements, clothing choice and safe riding techniques. It is a whole new experience for many students. Bike training enhances students cycling skills and teaches them how to ride their bikes safely and confidently. The school training is fully funded by Auckland Transport. For schools outside this region, please approach your own regional council.

We believe bike skills are vital for our tamariki, this is why alongside Auckland Transport we are happy to deliver bike skills in school and out on the roads Grade 1 and Grade 2 across the upper North Island.

Grade 1

Using your school playground we look at the basics of cycling. Developing knowledge of cyclists safety and working on the fundamental skills required to ride safely on the roads.

Grade 2

Over 2 days we begin in your school grounds with a ratio of 1:6 with an experienced instructor, starting with the Grade 1 skills with the scenario of using these skills in real world situations. Once these skills are learnt we take them onto local roads around your school using junctions developing good habits and awareness.
