Boat & Bike Adventures

Bigfoot Adventures provides alternative to the usual tramping trip for Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Silver and Gold participants.

We provide specialist equipment, transport and instructors for canoe, kayaking and mountain biking expeditions North Island wide.

Canoeing the Whanganui

Paddle the breath-taking Whanganui River in this 7 day journey. Safe, with a few easily handled rapids to add some excitement, the Whanganui is a beginner paddler's dream.

Mountain Biking

Ride the trails of Rotorua and Taupo. Explore the Redwoods and around the Lake, on two wheels staying at local campsites. Ideal for those who are comfortable on a bike, this trip will help increase your skills no matter where you are starting from. These journey's can be 3, 5 or 7 day adventures.

Sea Kayaking

Paddle the Hauraki Gulf. No need to drive for hours for a stunning location. We make use of our own taonga here in Auckland. Our 7 day trip island hops before finishing in the Eastern Bays.

What we offer

Ditch the hiking pack and instead choose a boat or bike for your three, five or seven day adventure with us. Bike the trails of the North Island, canoe the Whanganui River or kayak around the Hauraki Gulf to complete your Silver or Gold Practice and/or Qualifying journey.

We take care of all accommodation bookings and have robust health & safety procedures. Our team of friendly and fully qualified staff are experienced in working with all levels of the Award and are First Aid Qualified and Police Vetted. We provide well maintained specialized equipment for whichever mode you desire.

3 Day / 2 night Journey

Applies to: Silver Practice, Silver Qualifying or Gold Practice

Sea kayaking or mountain biking journeys can be run as separate practice and qualifying events. A great way to spend a three-day weekend.

Applies to: Silver Training & Practice or Gold Training & Practice

Complete both training and practice components in a week long adventure. We can run these 5 day adventures for Mountain Biking and Kayaking journeys.

7 Day / 6 night journey

Applies to: Silver Practice & Qualifier or Gold Practice & Qualifier

Spend the school holidays exploring your extended backyard with us and other award participants on an unforgettable journey. We run both practice and qualifying components back to back in this extended wilderness adventure. Finishing this journey completes the Adventurous Journey component of your award.
