How did you get here?

I came to New Zealand from England in 2011 to the Rugby World Cup and stayed! Always had a passion for the outdoors since hiking in England and Wales with my Dad. I’ve been working in the Outdoors since 2008 in Canada, USA and New Zealand. I have qualifications in Cycle Instruction, Archery, High Ropes, Lifeguarding, Swim Teaching and an Honours Degree in Economics.

What is your favourite outdoors activity?

Hiking is my favourite outdoors activity – exploring New Zealand’s amazing back country and bush. I’ve been lucky enough to complete a number of the Great Walks in both the South and North Island with Rakiura Track on Stewart Island next on my list.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by young adults and instructors who embrace learning in adventurous environments and respecting our precious environment. I am encouraged too by the quest to expose young people to the outdoors and away from technology. I’m inspired by a quest towards continuous improvement – with the strive to not accept complacency and make small improvements every day that add up to make a big difference.

What do you love eating while out in the bush?

I discovered this on the final day of walking the Milford Track – salami, macaroni, cheese, sweet chilli tuna & minted peas, with some cracker sprinkles for texture.

What are the top 3 most memorable experiences you’ve had in the outdoors?

1 – Sleeping in snow caves in the Canadian Rockies, beside a natural hot spring in -40 degrees.

2 – Paddling down the beautiful Whanganui River

3 – Multi-Day hiking along the Appalachian Trail in USA
