CYCLE SAFETY

Bigfoot Adventures offers cycle safety and skills programmes to schools, as well as bike hire, instruction courses, and mountain biking tours.
Our Cycle Safety Programmes are specifically for students between the ages of eight and twelve. Each participant attends an hour and a half session that focuses on safety skills and techniques for young cyclists. These include fitting a helmet correctly, familiarisation with different parts of a bike, how to ride in different conditions and road rules.
In addition, each participant receives a Cycle Safety Activity Book that includes checklists, gear maintenance tips, traffic signals and a certificate of achievement. We can supply all bikes and gear but students are encouraged and welcome to bring their own bikes. We provide activity accessories such as ramps, stop signs, and give way signs to ensure that your students receive the best instruction on how to stay safe on the roads.

Look out for our upcoming Level 1 & 2 Road Cycle Safety programme being roled out across selected schools in Terms 2 & 3 for 2010!!!

SKILLS ACTIVE (SFRITO) & ATTTO WORKPLACE ASSESSORS

NZQA Assessor Status

Recently Bigfoot Adventures has successfully gained NZQA Assessor status with two of New Zealand’s biggest Industry Training Organisation’s – SFRITO and ATTTO. These are the government regulated standard setting bodies who determine what level skills should be assessed at in various industries.

This means we are now one of only a selected group of Outdoor Recreation providers able to assess certain NZQA units (within our scope) up to current industry standard levels and report credits for these via the schools provider code.

If requested we can assist with directing you on how to arrange a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ between all three parties to ensure all the administration formalities are completed correctly and before any unit assessments take place.

Some of the areas we currently specialise in are:

# Tramping
# Mountain Biking
# Adventure Based Learning
# Sea Kayaking
# Whitewater Kayaking

As we are a fast growing company and strongly believe in regulary upskilling our instructors in their technical skills training, more activities will be added to our ‘scope’ until we have a broad knowledge of various outdoor recreation activities for schools to enjoy. Please feel free to ask about any other units that we may have recently gained or could look into applying for to assist your students learning in the outdoor recreation domain of the National Qualifications Framework.
